Will Oprah Run for President in 2020?

She is universally well-known all over the world and has been since the 1980s, the golden age of daytime talk show television. She is an acclaimed journalist, actress, and businesswoman, and is one of the most influential women in the world. Oprah Winfrey is seriously considering running for president of the United States in 2020, according to sources linked to CNN. This speculation began after her powerful speech at the Golden Globes Awards, when she accepted the Cecile B. Mille Award.

Oprah would pursue the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020 and she would be a formidable candidate for office.

Winfrey has a strong base of support, especially among the women who comprised the core viewership of her talk show and subsequent media ventures. Oprah has other advantages when it comes to her presidential campaign, such as having plenty of money. She was one of America’s first black female billionaires and would be able to fund her own presidential campaign.

To run for president or for any office today, it cost millions, if not billions of dollars, and strong fundraising. Rich Americans like Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, Mark Cuban, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, and other liberal-leaning wealthy people who are considering running for president in 2020 may consider supporting Winfrey and forgoe their presidential and political ambitions.

If Winfrey wants to run as a champion of working class people and appeal to Bernie Sanders supporters, she should run a grassroots campaign like Sanders did in the 2016 Democratic primaries. Grassroots fundraising would be a key for Winfrey.

However, Winfrey would have considerable disadvantages. She is a wealthy woman in an anti-wealth sentiment that most Democrats are feeling right now. A billionaire like Winfrey would bring Occupy Wall Street back into the streets. Remember them? She also has no experience in politics and government, and after the first year of President Donald Trump, Americans may not have the stomach to elect another “celebrity” president. Face it: Oprah is known as celebrity more than a politician.

Winfrey will have the rest of 2018 and parts of early 2019 to decide if she will run for president. In these days, you have to run for president a full year in advance to fundraise, hire staff, and have a message for people to consider voting for you. Winfrey would have the money and the international name recognition and stature, but does she have the fire in her belly to run a potentially grueling and long 2020 presidential campaign against President Trump? That remains to be seen.

There is not a single road that doesn’t have a moon-like crater awaiting to split the rims of your car in two. No matter if you...

The Need to Lower College Interest Rates and Tuition

By quovadis April 18, 2018

By Kayla Lombardo Staff Writer Having such high tuition costs is off-putting to many young adults who are thinking about attending college. Many other countries already offer free tuition for students attending community colleges, like in Sweden, Germany and Chile. The main reason why the United States has not followed other countries with this is because of how much money the government earns from our students' loans, over $100 billion. Bernie Sanders wants to prevent this from...
