Ultimate Media will be organizing the Asian American Heritage Festival at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center in Edison on Sunday, May 20, starting at 11 a.m.

“The Festival will cater to the Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Chinese, Filipino, Korean and Japanese groups,” according to the Asian American Heritage Festival website.

“The festival starts with cultural performances, which are a very classy mix of Asian fusion acts by various top schools from the tri state. We have approximately 500 kids performing Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indian, and Bangladeshi dance forms,” Mamta Narula, president of Ultimate Media, said.

According to the festival website, the festival “commemorates the Asian American month of May in the United States” and will bring entertainment, food, and shopping from Asian cultures.

“Food is mostly Indian, Chinese and American…there will be dosa, tandoori chicken, samosa, Chinese noodles, and a variety of deserts to name a few,” Narula said.

Dosa is a type of Indian pancake made out of lentil and rice batter, tandoori chicken is an Indian chicken dish that is marinated in yogurt and spices and samosas are pastries that contain vegetables or meat and are eaten in India and other parts of Asia.

Narula said there has been a guest appearance from a Bollywood celebrity at the Asian American Heritage Festival every year.
“Taapsee Pannu was the chosen one [Bollywood celebrity] for last year. For this year we will be finalizing soon. It’s generally a surprise until two weeks of the festival,” said Narula.

There is a $3 entry fee to attend this festival. For more information about the Asian American Heritage Festival in Edison, one should go to the following web address:
