Neil DeGrasse Tyson Strikes Again

Jade Borges

Managing Editor

“Astrophysics for People in a Hurry,” a 2017 science novel by Neil deGrasse Tyson, was extremely interesting and educational.

The purpose of the book is to teach about astrophysics in slightly over 200 pages, which is much shorter than the average book of this genre. Most science literature is hundreds, if not thousands, of pages, which tend to drag on. This book, on the other hand, was very short and concise, with simple language.

I read the book in one sitting. I drank a latte with extra espresso so I could stay up to do homework, finished earlier than I thought, and was left wide awake at 2 a.m. So, instead of sitting on my phone as I always do, I decided to read “Astrophysics for People in a Hurry,” which I had gotten as a birthday gift a week prior.

I’m glad I did. I’ve always been extremely interested in space and loved the show “Cosmos,” which featured Tyson. This book solidified the love I have both for science and Tyson, who is one of the most important scientists of our time.

I learned so much in a short span of time, without overloading my brain. A lot of science literature is hard to read and goes above and beyond things I can understand. This book was special because it did not.

The book talked about time, space and the creation of the universe from the beginning. It touches on dark energy and dark matter, along with topics of chemistry and physics. While these ideas may seem intimidating, Tyson uses humor to help describe these concepts.

So, science lovers, rejoice. You don’t have to be extremely knowledgeable about the things you love to read this book because it teaches you everything you need to know in a way that helps you learn. It truly is for people in a hurry.
