Makeup Tips and Reviews: My Favorite Beauty Gurus

By Samantha Casano
Managing Editor

As I was preparing to enter high school, I searched YouTube for videos with advice for freshmen, but I soon became enthralled with videos about beauty and fashion. And then it became an obsession. Since that day over six years ago, I have spent probably thousands upon thousands of hours watching beauty videos. So, I feel uniquely qualified to inform you about some of the most popular “beauty gurus” on YouTube today.

The first “beauty guru” I ever watched was Lindsey Hughes, aka “Beautybaby44.” I fell in love with her easy-to-accomplish everyday schol makeup routines, outfits of the week, and most of all, her bubbly personality. Since that time six years ago, Lindsey has transitioned into having a more lifestyle-based channel, but makes sure to vlog all the exciting events going on in her daily life.

Jaclyn Hill is one of the original and most popular beauty gurus. I’ve talked about her before, as she is the face behind Becca Cosmetic’s Champagne Pop and the Morphe x Jaclyn Hill Favorites palette collaboration. She has been on YouTube since 2010 and has over four million subscribers. Known for her glamorous makeup tutorials and her monthly beauty favorites, she even once filmed a video with style icon Kim Kardashian! If you’re searching for the latest beauty trends, look no further than Jaclyn Hill.

Known for her drugstore makeup recommendations, Kathleen Lights proves that you don’t have to spend a fortune to look good. She joined YouTube in 2013 with her simple, natural makeup tutorials. Over 3 million subscribers can relate to her random rambles where she just talks about her life. If you’re seeking beauty on a budget, check her out.

With almost 300,000 subscribers since joining YouTube in 2011, Jess “Jkissa Makeup” is a little lesser known. She is recognized for her devotion to a vegan and cruelty-free lifestyle. Her skin is so beautiful that she doesn’t even wear foundation. You can always count on her to give great skincare recommendations. If you’re looking for vegan and cruelty-free cosmetics, she’s your girl.

Raw Beauty Kristi joined YouTube in 2013 and currently has over 280,000 subscribers. Her makeup recommendations are beyond compare. I have loved everything that I have tried based on her suggestions. She is noted for her extremely honest reviews (hence the “raw” in the title) and her full-glam makeup tutorials. If a glam look for a big night out is what you desire, this is the place to go.

Liv Loves Her Makeup is an up-and-coming beauty guru. Having joined YouTube in 2014, the number of her subscribers is over 72,000 and growing. I can always trust her super real product reviews. She is famous for her high energy and her weekly “fails and holy grails.” If trustworthy reviews of the latest beauty products are what you need, look no further.

When it comes to beauty and style, YouTube can be a great place to go to find out the latest trends and products, no matter what your budget. I hope you’ll check out some of my favorite beauty gurus.

No Need To Panic About COVID-19

By Luke Lombardi March 25, 2020

Luke Lombardi The pandemic known as the coronavirus (COVID-19) has a lot of people panicking. I had conversations with people while I was working at a gas station about their concerns with gas shortages. People are also concerned that certain stores have run out of toilet paper and basic needs for people. I am not one of the people panicking about this virus. As long as a person is able to stay safe and be reasonable, they...
