The Lady Blue Colts began the first round of the Region XIX Garden State Athletic Conference playoffs on Feb. 24.
Head Coach of the Lady Blue Colts, Coach Powell, went into detail about the preparation process for the playoffs, her greatest advantages going into the playoffs and how important it is for all the members of the team to step up.
Powell said, “We tend to dissect game film to prepare for our upcoming opponent. The playoffs are different, it’s one and done. Every game requires hard work and attention to detail.”
“Around this time of year players are fatigued and sore…bench play is a huge factor heading down the stretch of a season,” Powell said.
Powell said this is the first time in four years that there is no all-American players on the team. Last year, the team had a 1,000-point scorer, which they don’t have that this year.
The offense of this team is predicated on ball movement and their well roundedness, said Powell.
Powell said, “We are a very well rounded team. I can take a player out, put one in and still get the same production out of the next player I need to step up.”
This year’s edition of the Lady Blue Colts is mostly made up of freshmen.
Powell said, “That [the team consisting mostly of freshman]doesn’t worry or concern me. We have played around 20 games this season, so we should be ready. Besides winning, the best part of the playoffs is that it’s a fresh start, we can just take one game at a time.”
According to the National Junior College Athletic Association website, the Middlesex County College Lady Blue Colts were 18-10, as of Feb. 24.
The team is looking to finish between the three and six spots in the standings, said Powell.
The Lady Blue Colts will finish playoffs by March 17.
