‘Circle Mirror Transformation’ Comes to MCC

By Zoe Florius, Managing Editor

The Visual, Performing and Media Arts (VPMA) department is hosting “Circle Mirror
Transformation” in the Studio Theatre on Thursday, Feb. 21, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., Friday, Feb.
22, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 23, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Anna DeMers, a professor at The College and director of the play, said that the play is centered
around students attending a local community center that’s offering an adult creative drama
class.

“They start to reveal stories and things about themselves through acting games and exercises. It
feels like we’re watching them take these classes, while they’re revealing things about their
lives,” she said.

The production will be about 90 minutes.

“We did auditions at the end of last semester, in December. We started rehearsals the first
week of classes,” said DeMers, “We meet four times a week for anywhere between three and
four hours. Mondays and Wednesdays, we meet about three hour and half hours. Thursdays
and Fridays, we have a four-hour session.”

DeMers said, “It’s unexpected – what’s revealed through the simplicity of the setup of these
acting exercises – where suddenly, the characters aren’t acting anymore, and they’re telling
their own personal stories.”

DeMers said that people who may not be pursuing theatre or visual arts part of their major, but
have an interest in it, are still able to take a theatre class to fulfill a GE Humanities elective.

Tickets will be available through the box office, free to students with an ID and $10 for non-
students. They can be purchased at https://m.ovationtix.com/cl/3002. Students must first make
an account, and then type in the code MCCSTU for their free reservation.
